How You Can Help

Most important: Your presence at General Assemblies and actions.

Occupation Needs:

At this time, we do not occupy a physical space, so we thank those who helped us remain at Turning Point Park for 2 months, and will let you know if we plan to occupy a new space.

Other ways to help:

  • Financial help is always appreciated and we will honor your generosity by using the funds strategically and with transparency.

THANK YOU!

  1. Greetings,

I’m urgently trying to make contact with Justin Wedes, Pete Dutro, Vlad Teichberg, Bill Dobbs, David Graeber.

Please provide a person means or way to contact these individuals.

  2. An Occupation is a place for everyone/anyone to come and be heard. A place for people to come and share their pain and be encouraged and supported by learning that they are not allow. Making this place in a public park is the example of Occupy Wall Street. To stand in solidarity with OWS we have taking up occupying Turning Point Park. I do not see that example being realized by Occupy Hartford. Too many people making decisions for the group with out the participation of the group. This is being done by individuals and small secretive groups making life altering decisions for the group in private off site meetings. Have you forgotten the original statement of this movement? Since people, that have made great sacrifice, are being ignored we are now guilty of the every acts and behaviors that we say we are protesting against.

    • The wonderful thing about a decentralized movement is that we can all operate in different spheres of the movement and still be working together! People are welcome and encouraged to have discussions about the movement in whatever way they see fit. The healthy and important part of a diverse movement is its ability to have multiple groups working on multiple things along similar lines each in their own way. This is a good thing. We all operate and focus on different things and its that diversity that helps us. Everybody is Occupy Hartford, everybody is part of the movement. Nobody speaks on behalf of the movement as a whole. Our diversity is our strength.

      • Diversity is absolutely necessary. I can not agree more. It is communication that is in much need of improvement. To encourage an individual sense of power, purpose and accountability is most definitely the only way to operator an all volunteer movement. We need to make better effort to keep everyone updated and in the loop. We handicap each other when anyone does not have full access to all information, updates, and developments.

  3. I have yet to visit you guys in the turning point park and offer my suport even though I drive past every day. Fully support the movement and its just amazing to see you guys stand up for what is right. It’s a great thing and I tell my wife everyday how you guys are standing up for 99% and hope to make a change in the society. I will visit you guys soon with some stuff from the needs list. Keep it going guys!!

  4. HELP NEEDED on the FOOD COMMITTEE: Hello 99%, We need people that are ready, willing and able to prepare hot meals for the Occupiers. Anyone interested in helping to sustain the camp and campers, please feel encouraged to contact Tammy at milliken.radcliff@yahoo.com.

  5. I am planning on coming over to meet you all and sit with the MedMob group this Friday! I went through my house today and gathered a bunch of things that aren’t getting used around here and would serve a much better purpose with you. Most of them are on the list but a couple are not so I wanted to tell you what I have and you can let me know if they would be helpful or not. And please be honest, I will not be offended. I only want to give you things that will be useful. Here are the items in question:

    envelopes (small)
    3 ring binders
    rubbing alcohol
a digital camera with a rechargeable battery and chord to connect to computer
    toothpaste
    band-aids

Also, I want to let you know that I will be bringing a refurbished laptop for you all, donated on behalf of Ian Warhaftig from Consider it Fixed! (might make the digital camera more useful)

Thank you all for what you are doing. It gives me so much hope. I look forward to being with you on Friday.

    • Hi Marah this is Jay: I’ll ask others but your list seems great and much appreciated. I’m not sure if we need the binders and envelopes at the moment, but everything else is much appreciated. So we can ensure it will be well cared for, ask for Rob at the site (supply tent) to take possession of the laptop and camera. THANK YOU!

  6. I’m a Uha student and have spent some nights there with my girlfriend. We’re going to be getting a better tent soon and start spending a lot more time helping out at the campsite. I can’t do nightshifts, I need sleep to work on my senior thesis, I can’t spend time there during the day because that’s when I’m working. In terms of helping out the cause I can spend some nights over, and I will continue bringing useful items as I have already. Next to bring on my list: I saw that a Laptop is needed, and I have an old Dell I can give to you guys. You can be expecting that within the next week? Whenever I have time to come down again. Midterms are hell

  7. Hartford Religious Leaders will be visiting OccupyHartford at 10:30 am Monday, Oct. 24, to say ‘thank you,’ and offer support. See you soon!

  8. Would you folks like some yoga? I saw that in Boston local teachers were leading classes at their site. I am a yoga teacher & studio owner here in CT & would be happy to try to work something out.

  9. I have yet to visit the park but I drive by almost every day. Although I am not there, I want you to know that what you are doing helps me show my children the power of a community that stands up for all of us. I never fail to point the occupation out to my daughter when we pass by. Each time we talk about a different topic related to the issues that affect the 99%. Hearing her questions and ideas gives me a great sense of hope and pride. Thank you for fighting for her future!

  10. Anything planned for election day? I have to say, because of the mainstream media’s allegiance to the powers we wish not to be, coverage is spotty at best.

What if representative individuals set up outside the election venues (be sure to stay out of the illegal range) just quietly sitting at a table filled with resources to explain that Occupy is happening and why? I’ll probably just take it upon myself to do so in my town, but just a suggestion . . . I’ll be sure to show NYC Occupy’s livestream.

  11. Hey I was wondering if you guys can make a “official” flier and have it downlandable from this website so I can print out and pass around. I would make my own but an official one made by the legit group would be more appropriate and efficient.

    Regards from Manchester,
    Jonathan Colon

  12. How wonderful to see this grass roots effort first-hand. Was with you on Saturday and came away with renewed faith in this country’s young people. Will be by before Saturday with stuff from the needs list.

  13. Friends,

My NYC friends are organizing to bring harm reduction and safer sex information to the occupiers. Is there a need for condoms (male and female), and harm reduction information and access?

    Peace
    Shawn

  14. There are no rules for what we are trying to do. Please hold onto the park. We need a place to gather. At this point we don’t need to have any other demand or objective. In loving regard, Beth & Joey’s Mom. I am nobody. I am anybody. I am everybody.

  16. Keep up the good work guys! I will be by soon to share support and supplies. I had to move to a new apartment this weekend so I haven’t been able to participate yet. Keep it up! We will change the system to favor the 99%!
